A couple of issues I’ve brought up in the last couple of weeks have been resolved. I blogged about a friend whose child got an e-mail from a coach at the University of Delaware, which I interpreted as pressuring the youngster, in a borderline sleazy way, to decide to attend UD. The kid replied that they weren’t sure yet, and the coach responded honorably: “I completely understand that you want to keep all your options open… I know choosing the right college is not an easy process. Please feel free to ask questions when they arise.” Well, all right.
Then there was the post about my upcoming lunch with the textbook rep, specifically whether, if I allowed him to pick up the tab, I would have a conflict of interest when it comes to choosing texts for my classes. Well, the lunch happened on Friday, and I finessed the who-pays issue by bringing him to the student union, which is cafeteria style and where you pay at the register. The only trouble was, he handed me an umbrella with his company’s logo on it. This being one of the torrential days last week, I took it. The umbrella is worth more than my tuna sandwich but what can I tell you? I really wanted to stay dry.
