Well, I am sitting in the U. of Delaware student center, finishing up a lunch of deep-fried pierogies (I am not making this up), having just walked out of my first class since mid-May. (Walked out in the sense that it was over and I left, not stomping out of the room in dismay.) It was good to be back; I have to admit that their bright shining faces got me a little choked up.
The course was “Introduction to Journalism,” and I was so pumped that I actually had the courage to ask the students why they were taking an introduction to a “dying industry.” Two separate people, in their answers, mentioned “the power of storytelling.”
They had me at “the.”
We’ll see how it goes in the cold glare of the second class.

Where is your comment on the Yale admissions video (see the newest New Yorker)? The college sports scandals (see today’s (2/12) NYTs? I miss the analysis and commentary.
Wow, that is pressure. Well, Maria did post on the Yale video, if I’m not mistaken. And I will muse on the SUNY Binghamton scandal and possibly weigh in. I will say that I have a friend who used to work there who told me that things were even worse than were reported.
